| Bio: | The Story so Far
I am originally from Jamaica. I was born at 9:00am at Hargraves Memorial in Mandeville Jamaica on March 5, 1975. My father moved to Canada, before my parents could wed. As a result there was a rift in my family that I think never truly has been bridged, for having a baby out of wedlock was a bad thing then, and still is to some families in Jamaica today.
Father left for Canada slightly before my first birthday and shortly there after married mummy dearest. Upon marriage my parents both lived in Canada for 2 years. While they were in Canada they tried to first make a life in Toronto, and then Kitchener, I was living with my grandmother on my mothers side in Jamaica during this time. I finally moved to Canada on my third or fourth birthday.
My family is a set of wanderers. I am still in that stage of wandering that seems to subside around the mid thirties. While in my primary school days I moved:
- 1978 once from JK to another school
- 1980-1981 Kindergarden to grade one (Pioneer Park PS)
- 1982 once in grade two (from Pioneer Park PS, to Alpine PS)
- 1983 once in grade 3 (Alpine PS, to Pioneer Park PS)
- 1984-1986 once in grade 4-6 (Pioneer Park PS, to Queen Elizabeth PS)
- 1987-1988 once in grades 7-8 (Courtland Senior PS)
- Cheated on an assignment and got caught... :D First and last time I cheated on anything
- Achieved Straight A's in every thing. The counsellor at my school didn't even look at my marks during the streaming process. He believed that I could not make the grades to get to university. I was so pissed. It's the story of my life. People have always said I couldn't do a certain thing, after I had set my mind on it I mangaed to do what I said I would do.
- This set the stage for the rest of my life. Honour, hardwork and respect are what I want from people so I give it to them.
- 1989 started grade 9 (Cameron Heights High School)
- Tried out for soccer and failed
- Made the track and field team went to OFFSA for relay 4x100
- 1990 stayed at Forest Heights Collegiate Institute until grade 13(OAC's)
- Started my love of the specialized relays, hurdles, and long jump
- Love of mathematics started with my induction into the special education program for gifted students
- 1990-1993 grade 10 to 13 (Forest Heights Collegiate)
- Played the chess team, never competed.
- Joined and lead the track team to offsa regionals and offsa
- Went to Ontario Legion Track and field championships
- Won Ontario Legion Indoor Long Jump and got bronze in the 60 hurdles
- Won WCSSA Long Jump 4 times
- Won CWOSSA Long Jump 4 times
- Tore hamstring twice
- Went to Junior Nationals and placed 4th in Long Jump every frigging time! Damn it.
- upon graduating High School went to University of Waterloo for Applied Mathematics, and quit after my 2a term. The environment of the school doesn't allow for original thought, or discusssion between professors and students.
- Only really good things to come out of waterloo were my distane for it and my life long friends
- Met Hong, Keith, Brian, and Kael there. Best friends for ever. I'd take a bullet for these guys.
- I also met this quacky guy named Stu. He has always been around, and there are times I miss him to this day.....
- went to Carleton University in 1998 finished in 2002
- 1998-1999 Started in Computer Mathematics PASS(General 3 year)
- well well well...What do yo uknow. Hong dissapeared and ended up at Carleton in exactly the same department!( Science!) He was in Computer Science and eventually came to the dark side...Computer Mathematics....
- 1999-2000 upgraded to Computer Mathematics Honours(4 year)
- Become a TA for Dr. Mingarelli(Engineering Mathematics)
- Become the head of the mathsoc at Carleton University make it more accessible to others on campus and people start coming by the dozen.
- 1999-2000 Switched to Double Honours Computer Science and Mathematics Hon B. Math
- TA for Dr. Saban Alaca
- TA for Dr. Samuel Dube
- Take my first graudate level course over the summer. Mixture of Finite State Automata, and had explorations into high level mathematics such as Projective Geometry. My final project in this course was on something called Light Cones and Relativity! Wicked stuff.
- 1999 Christmas Parents Divorce...I gave up and almost quit school.
- 2000-2001 January - Mediasoft Courts me to join their company. The contract states I need to finish my school in 2001, which means I have to drop down to 3 year general. As the papers are ready to be signed, the tech sector crashes.
- Take game theory and graph theory...both courses suck I end up finding that 4th year algorithms is my thing.
- What can I say. It was a crappy year! I managed to get through and ...well....The Dean of Mathematics on the day of convocation thought that I was getting an honours degree instead of the Pass Degree that I had in my hand. He talked to me for all of 5 minutes and convinced me to go back to school for the 2001-2002 year to get my honours degree.
- A combination of professors convinced me to return. The best part is they let me chose, and not push me to do anything.
- My mentors at that school were:
- Dr. C.K. Fong(Hard Working Professor, actually showed that he cared about his students and his craft)
- Dr. M.J. Moore(Hard Working Professor, introduced me to a university class that was worth going to. Discussion was interactive and not one sided like waterloo, he was also an excellent football player)
- Dr. Samuel Dube(Second mathematican that I met that wasn't really defined by his work, he defined it instead. He was also competed in strong man competitions. He was an all around great guy.)
- Started going out with Yanna. Great lady at first. Had huge trust issues.
- 2001-2002
- Started the year setting up an Honours Project with Dr. C.K. Fong and found that I actually know what the heck was going on with graphics. The derivation for the NURBS style calculations for graphics was difficult to master but it ended up looking a lot like the Binomial Distribution of points. It was great.
- This is the year I got engaged to a woman named Yanna. Great lady, a bit insecure. I should have seen the signs that I wanted to be her Knight in Shining armour. All I needed was her trust. She could never ever fully hand it over to me. Though, I was never supposed to distrust her.
- The beginning of the end of my relationship with this woman was the moment I applied for Teachers College and found that I didn't get into the local Teachers College in Ottawa, but I did get into the school in London! What a great moment for me, but also the saddest.
- Same time my mother and brother were in Oxygen tents, what a heat wave. They almost died, and I left Ottawa for good then. I kept up the relationship with Yanna, and we were to be together in the fall. She agreed to move up to London with me....I didn't have a lot, and well she decided it wasn't enough. I got a room with her signing on ...and she was supposed to come...but lo and behold, guess what, she changed her mind again.(I suspect it was her sister again saying something that spooked her again)
- 2002-2003 Teachers College (University of Western Ontario)
- Enter the land of bubble T!
- Enter the land of the coolest Honest Lawyer ever!!! Note this is where I could get all you can eat wings on mondays. So ...guess where I was during hockey season.
